Black Widow in my FRONT YARD (briefly before it met with the firm handed flip flop of fate). Funny story: my second summer internship in California was at the Eucalyptus lined University California Irvine campus. One of my coworkers told me that the Eucalyptus trees were often called widow makers because the branches would break off suddenly, piercing whomever was foolish enough to be caught below. So everyday at quitting time I’d sprint during my long walk to the bus anytime I found myself below those nefarious trees. Fickleknitter, providing free entertainment for the whole family since 19*coughity*cough*.
If any one picture can describe my child this is it. She is constantly in motion from the time she wakes up until bedtime. No Eucalyptus trees were harmed in the taking of this photo.

Elmo was in one the spinning wheel shenanigans. Next thing you know they’ll be spinning up my stash of wool while I’m out. Damn that Elmo.

We had two scraggly eucalyptus trees here, and someone working next door knocked on mine when he was done and offered to get rid of the both for $100. Sold! Trashy little fire hazards, they were. The Chinese Elm gladly grew over their spots, glorious and green.
If you can’t trust Elmo to tattle, who can you trust?
Up until about 3 weeks ago when the neighbors finally took out all their trees, I could have taken a picture of the huge limb that dropped from their eucalyptus tree. Luckily, all in their yard.

Sadly, a falling limb from a Eucalyptus tree did kill someone where I live last year The trees border a twisty bit of road and when the limb fell it landed on a small, open-top jeep, which was then knocked off the road. The passenger was injured and driver was killed.
She is so incredibly squeezably cute. You should put your stash under lock and key- but yay that she’s starting so young. Soon you can stash-enhance together…

Boy she looks like Daddy.
I was waiting under one of those eucalyptus trees when a branch came crashing down and stabbed me in the wrist. Luckily it wasn’t a large branch or I could have been a goner. Another woman here was jogging and met her end (in the park with a branch) when a much more sizeable branch fell and got her.
PS – could you pass along my address to Elmo? I’d love some handspun!
