Spinning Wheel Injury of the Third Kind

first_wheel_injury

I had my first spinning related injury yesterday whose sole responsibility relied entirely upon user error. I was excitedly teaching Roberta to spin (!!!) at her request (!!!!) when I jumped up from my wheel to grab a book from the bookshelf to share the magic that is art yarn. The next few moments unfolded in micro holyshits. First my wheel tipped precariously toward the floor, then Roberta reached out to grab it while I simultaneously shot my hand forward somehow grabbing the flyer hooks instantly stopping the wheel descent. This delicate ballet of ass over teakettle finally came to an end with the wheel reseated properly on the floor and me clutching my thumb while shrieking louder than Siouxsie and all her Banshees.

I don't blame the wool.

The only thing it's guilty of is wiling me with its subtle shades and killer name, Leafy Seadragon. (Although the unexpected visitor pictured in top left leaves a cold wind on my neck).

At this point I'd like to reassure my readers that spinning is in fact a safe pastime and one has great rewards.

That and small gaping flesh wounds are easily closed with new skin. (But my pride will remain injured for at least a week).

I knew there was a reason I don't spin!

Clearly spinning is fraught with danger and one can lose life and limb at any moment.

Cool! Gotta pull out the spindle.

Btw, you've put up some gorgeous spinning on Ravelry!

And how is this affecting the thesis? hmmmm?

Consider it a badge of honor, or a rite of passage, or...whatever. You know, "Only REAL spinners have their battle wounds to prove it!"

See! I just knew spinning was dangerous! It's all those things going round and round...t'aint natural! ;)

Now that that wheel has taught you who is boss, you can get down to the process of obeying its whims without question. When it tells you in the middle of spinning the pink blend that it wants blue, you are now able to change bobbins and spin that blue without second guessing yourself- knowing full well what the consequences may be if you don't. obey. the. wheel. (that being said, its late enough over here, i'm off to bed)

You'll be happy to know I didn't let your accident scare me away from spinning. Today my roommate got to witness my obsessed look but was soon distracted by the pretty colors.

Glad the finger is still attached to the hand :)

that first photo gives me a case of the wigglies, which is related to the heebie jeebies but not to the wiggles (shudder).

I am recalling now another thumb-related injury! Do you remember when you almost cut the end of your thumb off making dinner once?? Me and Randy sure do!!
It does look really nasty though!!EEEEEEEEE!
Hey see you soon!!

But at least you caught the wheel. My then-teenage son tripped over mine in the dark, lost his balance, and that big foot of his landed splat on the flyer, shattering it and more. Cost me $120 for the replacement parts, and the thing has shimmied and shook ever since.
