Reformed Cleaner
I must admit I am typically more a cleaning product collector than user. I browse through the aisles at t*rget leisurely taking in all the cleaning stuff, trying to keep my finger on the pulse of what's good, what's not, and what is getting buzz. Since getting the hardwood laminate floor a few weeks ago we've become obsessed with clean floors, fighting back the tide of errant goldfish and cheerio dust bombs that go off on the hour. I know Swiffer became popular like ten years ago, but with craptacular carpet we didn't need one. I looked like the president of the geek parade when I marched into t*rget purposefully toward the cleaning utensils, god help the elderly or the stricken who got in my path that day. I eagerly brought my new prize home, put it together in a snap, slapped on a disposable cover and went to town. Thirty-five seconds later a square foot of floor was clean, and the cover was covered in dust, dog hair, and baby food shrapnel and cast offs (Maya casts off any unwanted item off of the island highchair like a rocket). I pondered this issue while reusing the cover for days, finally replacing it with the backup cover which I overused too. Then I got to work. I knit like a crazy person (a different crazy than the usual) for three days and nights with kitchen cotton, changing my cover as I went to maximize floor coverage and reduce unnecessary knitting in the trifecta of knitting, crazy, and by god LOVING THE EARTH. As Lori would say, I don't hate the earth (but don't ask me about paper towel usage in the ficklehouse and we will not be candidates for the family cloth any time soon. We don't own a Hummer either. So we really really don't hate the Earth. Love you Earth!). And without futher ado (or mention of the evil Hummers) I present my very own reusable swiffer cover. Click the link below and be transported to Green! Resuable! Swifferdom!

Enjoy with my compliments.

I think this is such a great idea. And if I ever cleaned my floors, I'd totally make one. But I hate cleaning, so I'll just go on pretending all that cat hair is really a fluffy, soft rug. That sticks to all my clothes.

My apartment has only 2 small patches of linoleum. One in our under-the-stairs and very small kitchen and one in our bathroom. And I really can't justify a wet mop and a bucket to wash that total of about 20 square feet of linoleum, so I used to get down on my hands and knees and scrub it with a rag. Thusly, I did not do it often enough. Nor did I really SWEEP often enough. And with the prospect of moving to a different place where I will have hardwood or laminate flooring, I decided to get a swiffer. And I LOVE it! Although I prefer the disposable covers rather than having something else I can't do until I finally do the damn laundry ;) Now if only I could afford a vacuuming robot, my floors might actually be clean and cat-hair free.

This made me want to go buy a Swiffer, then I vaguely remembered using one before we moved. And I've actually found it. Now to get rid of some cotton in the stash.

How cute! I love the idea of using i-cord to secure it -- very clever!
